Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I see my dentist for a checkup?

We recommend visiting Dr. Ford or Dr. Merkel twice a year for routine cleanings and exams, so we can monitor your smile for changes that might indicate a need for advanced care. Has it been more than six months since your last visit to our Renton office? Don't hesitate to give us a call to schedule your next appointment.

Do you serve children?

Renton Dental Arts is committed to meeting the dental needs of children and adults alike. After all, children are just as vulnerable to the most common oral health problems as adults. Call us today if you'd like to reserve an appointment for your little one.

What are dental sealants?

This preventive service uses a thin but safe layer of plastic to help patients – especially young patients – keep harmful bacteria away from the chewing surfaces of teeth. Treatment only takes a few minutes to complete but can provide up to 10 years of advanced protection from decay.

Can you help me create a more glamorous or dazzling smile?

If you're interested in making cosmetic changes to your smile, our Renton dental office can help. We offer a range of popular cosmetic solutions, some of which also have a restorative benefit. These services include teeth whitening, tooth-colored fillings, and all-ceramic restorations. To learn more about any of these services, visit our cosmetic dentistry page or give our office a call.

Do you offer laser therapy for gum disease?

We do! Laser therapy has revolutionized the treatment of gum disease by making the process more comfortable and less invasive. Treating gum disease with a laser doesn't require the use of a scalpel or stitches. What's more, we precisely target only those parts of your smile that require treatment.

What is CEREC?

CEREC is a revolutionary tool that enables us to mill custom-made dental restorations in-office over the course of a single visit. Compare this with the traditional treatment process, which requires at least two visits. With CEREC, you leave our office with a restored smile after just one appointment.

Do I need an oral cancer screening if I don’t smoke or use other tobacco products?

We believe every patient should receive routine oral cancer screenings because you don't have to use tobacco to develop oral cancer. Excessive alcohol consumption also increases your risk of oral cancer, as can constant sun exposure, habitual cheek biting, and poorly fitting dentures. A growing number of cases are also related to the human papillomavirus. With all of this in mind, we believe in completing routine oral cancer screenings during checkups.

Are dental implants right for me?

If you need to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or an entire row of teeth, dental implants may be right for you. With this revolutionary service, you can look forward to enjoying more lifelike results than is possible with a traditional bridge and denture. Not everyone who needs to replace one or more teeth is a good candidate for implants. If you'd like to know whether this service is right for you, contact our office to schedule your consultation.

What should I do if I have an urgent dental need?

If you're in the middle of a dental emergency, don't hesitate to contact our Renton dental office. Dr. Ford and Dr. Merkel are committed to offering same-day care for urgent dental needs.

Do you accept insurance?

We do! Our office is in-network for patients who are covered by:

  • Washington Dental Service
  • Premera
  • Aetna
  • Ameritas
  • Cigna
  • Regence
  • MetLife

If you don't see your provider on the list above, we would still be happy to file a claim. We're dedicated to helping patients get the most from their benefits.
